Loyal friends inspire others to help the children

Arleigh and Mary Jane Jones of Illinois have been faithful supporters of Dakota Boys and Girls Ranch. In a generous act of stewardship, Arleigh and Mary Jane designated the Ranch as a beneficiary of an investment fund. As a result of this designation, Dakota Boys and Girls Ranch will receive a minimum donation of $100,000 for our ministry's work with at-risk boys and girls. We talked to Arleigh and Mary Jane about their connection to Dakota Boys and Girls Ranch and this gift.

How did you first become acquainted with Dakota Boys and Girls Ranch?

A former pastor, Virgil Kelm, shared a cup of hot tea before Sunday Bible Class. He sweetened that tea with honey from Dakota Boys and Girls Ranch. That was the first time we had heard of the ministry and at first we did not realize the Ranch's affiliation with the LCMS.

Once you learned about DBGR's ministry, what aspect of it resonated and connected with you?

Organizations such as the Ranch have the opportunity and means to affect so many young lives. The stories about the success of some of these young people are awesome. It makes us want to be a small part of their success.

You had an opportunity to tour Dakota Boys and Girls Ranch's facilities and see the work firsthand. What did you think of the time you spent at our locations in Bismarck, Fargo and Minot?

We certainly enjoyed the visit to the Ranch facilities and visiting with the staff. We were very impressed with everything we saw on our visit to the facilities and cannot say enough about the fine people we met and who showed us around. Everyone we met was absolutely "top quality."

The gift you have designated for the Ranch is a very generous act of stewardship. Why are you making it?

We are anything but wealthy, but we have found that it is impossible to out-give the Lord. Somehow He continues to provide all we really need, so we continue to help organizations like the Ranch. It is also our hope that running a story about our gift would help to promote stewardship.
